NYACOL Introduces flame retardant synergist for
resins: NYACOL® APE3040
Nyacol Nano Technologies, Inc. has now introduced a new
patented product for use in unsaturated polyester and
vinyl ester resins:
NYACOL® APE3040 is a nonaqueous dispersion
of colloidal antimony pentoxide in an unsaturated polyester
resin. APE3040 is formulated for use as a flame retardant
synergist in halogenated vinyl ester and unsaturated polyester
resins.
Nyacol's new technology allows the user to achieve a Class
I rating in ASTM E-84 flame-spread tests. It also:
- eliminates
gel time drift;
- offers
translucency in the final composite;
- is
non-settling;
- reduces
the level of cobalt required;
- provides
better penetration and infusion into the substrate;
- reduces
wear on pumps, valves and nozzles; and
- reduces
health, safety and environmental issues caused by concerns
with powdered antimony trioxide dust.
This new
technology from Nyacol may be used with brominated
DERAKANE® MOMENTUM®
resins from The Dow Chemical Company to
achieve Class I flame spread fire ratings.
The Dow Chemical Chemical is a leading supplier of epoxy
vinyl ester resins.

New NYACOL™ Products
for Thermoplastics
Nyacol Nano Technologies, Inc. has been the world's leading
supplier of colloidal antimony pentoxide for over three
decades, serving the flame retardant plastics and textile
markets. Nyacol's nano-particle technology has enabled
it to offer a range of products to the flame retardant
market.
NYACOL INTRODUCES NEW BURNEX™ PRODUCTS FOR THE ABS MARKET:
BurnEx 6220 and BurnEx 846 are two new grades of antimony
pentoxide that can be used in combination with a halogen
to give improved flame retardant properties to ABS.
Both products offer improved thermal stability and can
eliminate silver streaks in injection molding applications.
BurnEx 6220 and BurnEx 846 also give an advantage in translucent
applications when compared to competitive flame retardant
products. BurnEx 846 can be used in highly pigmented formulations.
Antimony pentoxide can, in general, reduce pigment loadings
by 50% to 75% when compared to high tint antimony trioxide.
This advantage results in cost savings and color matching
that is more easily achieved.
BurnEx 6220 and BurnEx 846 are available in powder or
pelletized concentrate form. Concentrates can be custom-formulated
to incorporate a resin designated by the customer.
FOR THE PP MARKET, NYACOL INTRODUCES BURNEX 6215:
Nyacol's BurnEx 6215-60 concentrate contains 60% antimony
pentoxide incorporated into a 4-melt flow polypropylene.
It offers the user a dust-free, easy to handle option
that can improve dispersibility of the flame retardant
in film, fiber or injection molding applications.
NYACOL PRODUCES A WIDE RANGE OF INORGANIC COLLOIDAL MATERIALS.
For the plastics market, Nyacol manufactures additives
for Flame Retardance, Anti-Block and Abrasion Resistance.
Silica-based materials are used for the anti-block and
abrasion resistance products. Nyacol welcomes the opportunity
to work with customers in developing new nano-sized materials
that will solve problems in a cost-effective manner. For

Company
name is changed.
Ashland, MA (February 1, 2000) - Nyacol Products, Inc., a leading
producer of colloidal dispersions of inorganic oxides and nano-materials,
has been acquired by a group of private investors. The new company
has changed its name to Nyacol Nano Technologies, Inc. to better reflect its
overall capabilities. Previously, the company, founded in 1969,
operated as Nyacol Products, Inc. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.
Nyacol Nano Technologies, Inc. has established markets for a series of
highly specific colloidal inorganic oxides in countries throughout the
world. The new ownership plans to aggressively maintain its
reputation for quality and innovative product development. Current
products include oxides of aluminum, antimony, tin, ceria, yttrium, and
zirconia produced in nano-particle sizes (millimicrons).
Nyacol products are used in plastics, resins and textiles to provide
flame retardancy. In oil refining Nyacol products are used as
passivation agents to improve gasoline yields and reduce catalyst
attrition. In industrial ceramics the company's products are used
in a variety of polishing and binding applications. In addition,
the company manufactures silica dispersions in organic media for various
polymer additives and coating applications. Nyacol has also
developed zinc oxide and titania for UV light suppression in
architectural films.
The new ownership will continue to operate with the current management
team. Dr. Vincent O'Grady will serve as the president of Nyacol
